Several Memphis TV stations reported sexual predators using the FRS/GMRS handi talkies in a northeast Memphis neighborhood by a man communicated with minors in an attempt to set up what police suspected was to be a potential sexual "hookup".
Repreprinted from WPTY and WREG websites:
The Memphis Police Department Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) charged a 38 year-old man with solicitiation of a minor: aggravated sexual battery.
Robert Romero-Flores was arrested Thursday, April 5 in the 3700 block of Vernon Avenue. Detectives say they received information that a parent was listening to a man tell her child on a two-way radio that he wanted to come play with her.
Through a conversation with the child over the walkie-talkie, the man asked the child her age, where she lived and who did she live with. Police say the accused predator kept talking to the girl as detectives arrived on the scene.
Flores was taken into custody after detectives staged a meeting location for him to meet the child at a specific time.
Robert Romero-Flores is being held at the Shelby County Jail.
