The local agencies will likely be using event talkgroups on DANECOM, City of Madison TRS, and possibly WISCOM. In addition, you could monitor Secret Service frequencies just to see if there's any activity, although I can say with almost 100% certainty that they will be encrypted.

Thanks. Oh ya, lots of encryption is certain. I presume traffic should pick up a day or two before as they prep in advance.

The last time, when Obama made a very brief impromptu visit, I was unfortunately just getting off from work and was stuck in rush hour Beltline traffic that they closed down in both directions and was without a scanner. It was the limo route used from the MSN airport to downtown. There were at least 2 black helicopters circling in the air during the entire affair. Should be interesting as I'll be home that day.

Advance teams typically use cellphones rather than radios, most conventional P25 traffic on the USSS channels use short range and are using radio IDs of 1 TG 4095, staff radios have different, longer, radio ID numbers. Comms start about 3-4 hours before the scheduled event, and are mostly, but not totally, encrypted. Every now and then you hear an unencrypted message, but do not expect anything more than a radio check or status report.

Don't forget to listen to airport security and statewide interop talkgroups on WISCOM, as well as Madison PD.

Pretty sad you can't get through a thread about a POTUS visit then have someone spew their political crap in it. Thanks for getting rid of those posts so the rest of us don't have to see them at all. It's fascinating on what all has to happen for a presidential visit and especially when I would not call it last minute one, but a one with a lot less of a heads up I guess. The folks who do this type of planning nail it every time, hell I can't even plan a three day vacation trip without screwing something up. I will be at home today so will do listening here as much as possible while preparing for the next snowstorm Wednesday night. Where I am at DaneCom is a real bugger to monitor. Surrounded by 3 towers and complete simulcast hell. I don't have my SDR's yet and don't intend to drop the big bucks on a SDS for now. I usually listen to the Madison Public Safety ISSI for the DaneCom talkgroups that are repeated and that works great. The Madison Public Safety system has a killer signal in the entire Dane County area and beyond. Since he is going to DeForest, I would recommend the Mousehouse Cheesehaus in neghboring Windsor, just off the interstate to the President. Great cheese and fudge!.
