President in Minnesota today

The President came to our state today and I got a lot of activity on the state Tac Channels and Military Air doing CAP. I got nothing on published Secret Service frequencies.

Did anyone get other related traffic other VHF/UHF bands?

Was working in Caledonia, drove there and back, saw LOTS of State Troopers near Rochester in the morning (like 10-12 heading north routinely on 52), I did not know what his schedule was today, not much going on during my trip down there through Cannon Falls were he supposedly was. On my way home lots of TAC channels, judging from what I heard he was traveling out of the state as one call was "Handover complete" or something to that effect. I presume that was all for POTUS, but like I said do not know what his sched was. And then lots of Rochester troopers calling 10-7 with OT for "detail".

I have heard the secret service channels are encrypted, did not monitor today, but his previous visit at the U of M I did, also did not hear anything on them.

POTUS protection details dont generally run with a very high powered radio system since local public safety takes care of the majority of the perimeter control and security with USSS supervision and they want to try to minimize prying ears... Often times USSS will operate in the clear until the president is on the ground and then they will put their radios in closed mode.

Chris Parris runs a great blog through Montioring Times magazine, and that is the way that I have found is easiest to keep pace with the USSS's radio patterns. He is a HDTV production engineer who travels throughout the country to large events. MT Fed Files

170.6250 $653 Fedcom may have seen some activity, but i suspect not since local public safety and USSS had a joint operations center.

There is a pretty strong repeater in use in the Mpls area, 164.4 with $000 and $001 that carries USSS traffic that are for the USSS operations that are based in Mpls and traffic is occasionally heard in the clear.

Did anyone do any listening to RACOM to see if there was any traffic on Iowa's end?

The secret service encrypts most of their radio traffic(for obvious reasons).

The handover to Iowa State Patrol took place at about 5 pm, give or take. In Iowa one could listen to Winneshiek County base 154.115 to listen to the deputies close roads, and also catch updates about the location of the motorcade via Decorah dispatch. I don't have MN programmed, so didn't catch any of that.

POTUS back again tomorrow (30 August 2011)

POTUS will be back in town tomorrow for a speech at 1100 at the Minneapolis convention center. Like last time, expect plenty of L Tacs and P Tacs to be in use. also keep an ear on VHF federal still (162.0000 to 173.9875).

Plenty of security traffic on 454 (133 ALW Perimeter Ops) and P Tacs 2-4
P Tac 2 and 3 seem to be strictly Mpls Police traffic, which i suspect is Convention Center Interior and exterior

What is 454? Is it a TalkGroup? I find no reference to it in the database.
