• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does this county not have adequate coverage from the State system? If they do, why are they not already using P25 talkgroups for paging? If not, why are they not using this money for new sites on the State system?

Good point.
Riding around the county with portable in car not noticing the out of range bonk any more. The in building everywhere coverage I don't know about but I bet there is RF survey data around. Paging question: How sensitive can an 800 trs pager be? Old days of low band and vhf pagers they were amazingly sensitive using human body as part of the antenna system. I do remember seeing faraday cages in radio shops and they said they needed them for the pagers because of weak signal sensitivity. Never saw/remember any db numbers for pagers and wonder how good they are especially 800mhz. I have a Unication on TRS but no sense of how it receives vs LMR. Nothing stands out.

To check sensitivity of a pager, we used a calibrated test jig with an antenna to alert the pager being tested near it's minimum field strength spec. Since the shop was well within the coverage area of the high-power paging system that was pretty active, the only way to get a consistent and useful test was to "hide" from the signal inside the screen room. Not to mention it had A/C when all we had in the rest of the shop was swamp cooling. :)

(add) I think I remember the pagers' receivers, especially at UHF, being fairly deaf compared to LMR receivers of the time (mid-1980s).

I never worked on the pagers but remember the test jig now that you mention it. If you mention it in a public school be prepared to be
run out of town for being racist.

I'm as sensitive to that as anyone reasonable, but even Urban Dictionary doesn't have an offensive meaning until deep in the second page, though I can hear it being short for a slur (and I've never heard anyone use it that way). I'm going with "safe". [add] On further reflection – note taken.
