I'm in Sacramento, and I can pick up as far south as Elk Grove, but I can't seem to pick up Roseville.
Am I expecting too much or is it something else?

I'm also using the ARC-500 software, and already have Roseville programmed from the RR subscription.

Thanks in advance.

Also is your scanner updated to the latest firmware since Roseville has gone through rebanding?

Thanks in advance.
I don't have software, but do you have Roseville set to MOT:800/900 and you should just put in the control channels listed 852.37500 853.05000 853.35000 853.55000. Then with your software program in the talkgroups you want.

If you need this which I'm guessing you have but heres a link anyway:http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/ARC500_User_Guide

You'll find that you're now picking up "as far south" as Galt PD, because, just like Elk Grove, Galt is on the Sacramento TRS. Sacramento has two trunked radio systems, and each has several repeater sites. In other words, there are two sets of frequencies, but each set is broadcast from several different locations.

Whether or not you can pick up Roseville depends on a lot of things. First, do you have Roseville programmed correctly? It is not just a matter of putting the correct frequencies in, you must also have the correct band plan selected. Roseville is a rebanded system, Sacramento is not (yet).

The second issue is probably your exact location. Sacramento is a huge place. Are you in the city of Sacramento, north of the river or south of the river? Are you at a higher place in the county or down "at river level"? I am in Fair Oaks, a relatively high location, and can pick up a huge area.

Lastly, what antenna are you using? The stock rubber antenna? If you are either some distance from Roseville, or at a lower elevation, an outdoor antenna (or at least one designed for 800 MHz and pointed the correct direction) will make a HUGE difference (assuming you use low loss coax, etc).

Bottom line here, it is not the scanner's fault. I can pick up Roseville from pretty much any place in the county (haven't tried from the Isleton area), so you should be able to as well. Welcome to RadioReference.com!!!

I'm in the Carmichael area, and am using the 800MHz antenna.

I figured that if I loaded up frequencies from the ARC500 software to the scanner that the rest would take care of itself. I didn't know that I would have extra work to do.

My fault I guess.

Now trying to figure out this rebanding thing and setting that up sounds a bit tricky.

I get Roseville just fine from Carmichael using a stock antenna. I know Carmicahel is not a small place. You must be in a hole there or something to not get it.
