A few battery information display questions:

There are two numbers displayed at the top of the Battery Info display. I believe the number in the upper right corner is the current battery voltage but I am not sure what the number in the upper left represents and how it is useful to the scanner user. I was thinking it was current draw, but I notice it continues to go down as the batteries are depleted.

Second, I was wondering if there is a shortcut way to bring up the Battery Info display in order to see the current battery voltage. Currently I am pressing the programming key, then selecting the global option, then scrolling down to the Battery Info menu line so I can select that option.

Last but not least, at what battery voltage does the radio shut down? It looks like about 4.50 to me.

Thanks.

The displayed value on the left is the equivalent program value of that voltage shown. The battery transition levels all the way to radio shutdown are progammable. You program with these equivalent values, not the voltage.

The default programming on the 500 is set to dump the radio when the battery level gets to about 4.3 VDC for NiMh batteries. You can program these values lower to get a bit more time before this happens but never take the rechargeables down below 1 volt each (4 volts on the display). The program default value (at 4.3 volts) is 484. The value can be changed to 449 to get close to 4 volts (remember, go no lower than this or you'll kill your batteries).

Rick, thanks for such a thorough answer! It answered by my question on the "mystery" number.
