I've had my PRO-106 for just about a year and already the connector is loose! I got a warranty and have yet to call them up but from reading the information it doesn't look good.

Signals are dropping out due to it being loose and I really don't want to buy another scanner after just a year.

Is anyone else having issues with the BNC connector coming loose?
If RS does not honor their warranty is their an easy way to repair it?

Thanks,

jay

My experience with RS warranty service was extremely positive. You take it to nearby store with your documentation and they ship it to the repair center. Usually fixed in under a week unless it needs parts. Mine came back better than new in a little over two weeks at absolutely no charge including shipping.
Just have to stay after the store to insure they shipped it and then to keep checking to see if they've gotten it back from the repair center.

Heres What You Do!

you dont want to go thru RS or pay a pile of moolah,,right,,

your gettin a break in the connect when you push the ANT to n fro/side 2 side ect,,
zero bars to 5 bars n such,,

ok,i had this same issue, posted about it in another post about tapping my pro 106..

open the case, get a magnifying glass, and a small flash light,

open up your radio, look at the BNC area, examine the connect to the board.
most likely youll see a break point in the solder joint..

your going to need to cut back some shielding to access the BNC area for work
after that its very open and easy to repair,

i used a small piece of shielded cable to ensure if there was any future flex that the cable
will allow a MM +/- rather than stress the PCB...

after the repair im gettin a solid 5 bars on my local MOTO Digi system,EDACS,MOto analog,,

sorry the pics are not better,,

Don't let the BNC connector on any scanner get too loose. As soon as you see that it is not tight:

1. Ground yourself.
2. Open the scanner and carefully tighten the nut on the connector. If you never want the connector to come loose again apply some blue Locktite don't use red or the nut will never come off again. You can find Locktite at Home Depot / hardware store.

I've had to tighten the nut on the connector once each on my Pro96 and my Pro-106. Didn't use any locktite but you can if you want to.

thanks for the replies

I've had terrible experience w/ BNC connectors coming loose. I have 5 hand-helds and all are loose.

I wish they'd adopt Motorola style SMA connectors that are sturdy or something of the like. Don't think that will happen.

funny you mention SMA,,ive been toying with the idea of dropping a SMA connector next to the BNC,,,

i use the GRE super amp,and i really hate attaching it to the radios BNC jack..no doubt another reason my
BNC failed prematurely,,
