I have used the Butel ARC500 for several years. It (and the other two available) have trial periods. There are many posts in RR about the pros and cons of the three choices, but the biggest difference is how you understand the programs. Try them and see which goes with your expectations and understanding.

Hate to break it to you but you won't be able to pick up most talkgroups on the Montgomery County, MD system with a Pro-106. You'll need a P25 Phase-II capable scanner, see list here (Scanner support for TDMA). Additionally simulcast distortion will most likely be a factor here so this system would best be tracked with a Uniden SDS100

The Radio Shack Pro-106 was the first scanner I ever owned. I still use it for conventional frequencies and it actually scans better and faster on conventional frequencies than my newer radios designed for P25 and newer formats. If you like listening to aircraft, railroads, ham radio repeaters, etc. It may still serve a use. I don’t live in your area, but Dallas, TX police and fire near me are still conventional and I use it to scan them fairly often.

There's a ton of milair in this area. With a better antenna (and maybe some extra filtering), you would have no end of activity in that area
