That's an excellent question to ask your supplier. Should since the updates have been out for awhile but certainly would ask so you don't get stuck having to buy a PC cable if you don't have to (still a good idea with this scanner though). Makes things much simpler.

My 106 ran fine on the firmware it was shipped with, and as I recall it was not the latest version. I have to see a tangible benefit to me for upgrading before I do.

While I agree with your decisions on your scanner, the upgrades have been positive and typically bring out more of the capabilities this device has to offer. They are easy to do, enhance the ability to add more functionality and are of major importance to those that have the type of systems that this will help. Whatever the case, none I've added have ever done anything but improve the scanner and have done nothing to hurt previous usability.

With the firmware update you can listen to a patched group. I don't know about your area. But for here one of the small towns is dispatched by our Sheriff department and is patched to them. You can tell when they are patched up in right hand corner of the scanner it will have ptch flashing.

You can here two different agencies talk to each other. For example police talking to sheriff. EMS to Fire just by patching.

Meant to say dispatched by them.

so it is in my best interest to get the updates then?
This is what the update does.

CPU 1.8 fixes
  • Adds patch support for P25, Motorola and EDACS trunking
  • Changes CCDump type string to "EDn" if "narrow invert" is turned on
  • Corrects LCD “mirror image” issue
DSP 1.4 fixes

  • Minimizes the possibility of a previous NAC displayed on a new transmission.
