I have a PRO-163 scanner. I have the USB cord from radio shack, and the Scancat Lite Plus software with the frequency databases. I've followed all the directions, tried everything, and probably just screwed it all up when I tried to uninstall the driver software for the cable, and now can't seem to re-install it. Crap, I don't know if it actually un-installed or not for that matter. Arrrrrg. I've been at this for weeks and I'm about to go insane. I have windows Vista if that helps at all. I finally decided to post my own thread after slogging through all the ones I have found in hopes there is someone out there that successfuly programmed theirs and is willing to help me. Thanks.

While I don't have the 163, I can tell you that the Scancrap software is a disaster. Dump it - there are 3 better packages - Win97, ARC300 and PSREdit300. They are all linked here...

PSR-300/400 Software and USB Support - The RadioReference Wiki

There is both an online and printed Easier to Read manual for that radio - the links are at the bottom of;

You can use our database to help program your radio. It would help to know where you are and what you are trying to program. The web service requires a subscription, defined here...

Premium Subscription Information Page

Alternately you can go to your state's forum, tell folks which software you have for the 163, and maybe someone has a file that you can use. But by all means, get rid of that disastrous software!

best regards..Mike

Thanks so much for posting Mike. I really appreciate it. I can't believe the frustration this is causing. I will look into the software you suggested right away before I throw it all out the window. I can't believe that RadioShack actually lists ScanCat software in their booklet as an ideal software if they are this terrible. Ugh I wish I had researched more or posted here BEFORE getting that load of rubbish. I do wish it would just WORK for crissake, it cost nearly fifty bucks. Anyways, thanks again. -Ellie
