I'm helping somebody set up their Pro-163 and we are new at trunking scanners. He wants the scanner programmed for police / fire in cities of Milwaukee County Wisconsin. Am I correct that if I get the Radio Shack USB-PC cable (20-546 I think) and software from PSREdit - Configuration Editors for the new GRE line of scanners, it should be relatively easy to program?

I would be willing to pay someone to do it locally, but have not found anyone. I'll purchase the cable and do it myself if it will be not too difficult. I am familiar with computers, but not with the newer generation of scanners.

Thanks !!!!

That should be all you need as long as the systems in question are not digital.

You won't have a lot of luck with the City of Milwaukee as they have moved to an Opensky Digital system, and there are no scanners that can decode that type of system. I don't know enough about the county Motorola system to answer that one, but as long as it's analog, it should work.

Wirelessly posted (Touch Pro II: Opera/9.80 (Windows Mobile; WCE; Opera Mobi/WMD-50433; U; en) Presto/2.4.13 Version/10.00)

PSREdit 300 is a great program, but for importing from RR and overall ease of use you might look into ARC300... Its a little easier to use and edit stuff in. Both have a 30 trial, try them both...see which one you like...
