There was a lot of talk about that in the NY Forum a few months ago. Try a search.

The Suffolk County TRS is a Motorola SmartZone system. The RR database says it's a 6-site simulcast system spread out around the county as shown at this link FCC Callsign WNNM880 Details

You will probably need to enter the control channel(s) and the custom/rebanded band-plan for this TRS as shown here http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=722 and you'll want to make sure your Pro-164 has the latest firmware.

Simulcast sites are often difficult to receive when equidistant between sites within their coverage area for many scanners but may be better as you go toward the eastern or western ends of the coverage area or if you use a directional antenna. Once you get more than 20-30 miles west of the last simulcast site it's not likely that you will hear them anymore without at least a good frequency-specific Yagi antenna pointed at the site(s).

Your best bet is to purchase a programming cable from Radio Shack and then use a software program such as ARC 300 which is an excellent and easy to use program. You will need to be a premium member of Radio Reference to import the data to your scanner, but with all of this it is very easy to program your scanner.

You won't have to worry about setting the type of communication used or the rebanding table, the software will take care of it all.

If you wish to program your scanner manually here is a good link to check out.

There is a helpful Wiki for the 164 as well.

Pro-164 - The RadioReference Wiki

Welcome to Radio Reference and keep on asking questions if you are not sure about something or want more information. There are a lot of helpful people on here and on some ocassions some who are not so helpful so you will have to weed those out.
