When my local police is having a conversation my pro 197 does not decode both side's of the conversation. One mobile will speak and it is understood well. The other will speak and it is not understood. Both are using the same apco p-25 system . How I know this is my old 785d is decoding both side's of the conversation. This is not a trunked system. So, could anyone help me understand this problem? P.s. I also have the pro 96 and it will decode the same police with no problem.

If when side by side the 785d or the 96 decodes with no problem then I'd suspect the 197.
I may be possible that one side is using an encryption that is readable by the base. P25 does have encryption capabilities what options your local PD opted for in their radios.

The police do not have ecryption here yet. Remember the 785d and the pro 96 had decoded both sides of the conversation and the pro197 had not. I have done the 1.9 upgrade since I had made this post. As of right now I do not know if this will help or what changes the 1.9 upgrade will do. If this will help I will post it. I sure thank you for your imput. It is possible that the scanner might have to go to the shop but, it does decode everything else. It sure has me scratching my head.
