I'm new to all this trunking stuff. I just bought this 2055 and I've made sense of some of the instructions, but there's other things I'm wondering about.

1. I programed in some trunking frequencies and for some reason, some of the frequencies carry the one voice channel when audio is coming through, but a few others will flash through a bunch of talkgroup ID codes while the audio is transmitting. Why is this?

2. I cannot understand how to get it to lock onto the talkgroups I want it to follow.

3. When I enter the trunking mode, and press mode to switch the scanner to Motorola scan for trunking, it won't scan the Motorola signals. It only locks on to the other frequencies that are saved in the bank. Why is this?

I'm sure I'll have more later.

With motorola you just need to enter the control channel freqs. The scanner listens to the control channel and figures out what freq to go to and receive voice/talkgroups.

In the database here on RR, the control channels are indicated by red color and a *. These are all you need to enter into your scanner. There is a easier to read manual in the wiki for the Pro-97, which is the hand held version of the 2055. This should help you through the manual that comes with it.

The best suggestion I have for you is to spend the $$ for the programming cable and download the trial version of win97. It is a nice program and makes life with the 2055 or 97 much more enjoyable. After 30 days the win97 is I think $25 for a password, but well worth it.

Where would you connect the cable, though? There's only an antenna, power, and external speaker connections on the back of the unit.

I still need an answer to the third question though. The only way it will receive trunking signals is if I have the trunking mode turned off. That doesn't make any sense to me.

When run in the open mode [+] you will hear all comms on the system. Make of note of those you wish to monitor. Enter them in the ID bank. Switch to the closed mode [-] now you can scan only those you wish to hear. Good Luck.

I did that. It's still coming up with ID#'s that I didn't enter. I still think I'm missing something.

the computer cable plugs into a jack just below the on/off knob. It says pc. The cable I got from Rddio Shack is # 20-289 about $20. And win 97 makes it so much easier to program.

Motorola trunked

It sounds like you have not COMPLETELY programming your scanner. The days are gone in most instances where all you need is a frequency.

When a channel is marked AM or FM in the database, then you can program it as "conventional". But if a channel is part of a trunked system (marked MO, EDACS, LTR, etc) you'll need to give the scanner more information.

MOTOROLA trunked:
For starters use ONE bank for each trunked system. Some scanners will only need the control frequencies for that one system programmed (no more than 4) but I do program all fequencies (up to 28) just for clarity (My PRO-92 requires all channels, the PRO-95 & PRO-97 do not). You must program each frequency to MO and you must program the BANK to MO. From what I've read above, you may be this far....

In order to hear ONLY the talkgroup IDs you want, you MUST set the BANK to CLOSED AND you MUST program the TALKGROUP IDs into the bank where you've entered the frequencies for that trunk.

The scanner will allow you to mix conventional channels into the same bank as a trunk, but I wouldn't until you get it working as you want and have no other slots to program them into. If you want to hear more than one trunked system, program each into separate banks.

If you are trying to listen to a EDACS or LTR trunk there are some slightly different programming rules.

Good luck

I've done all that you've stated. I do however have other FM frequencies (CHP and other local PD departments) on the same bank as the trunked frequencies. If I set the bank (which happens to be bank 1) to MO trunked and scan it, it only recieves the FM frequencies. However, if I set it to no trunk mode, it recieves the trunked frequencies. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Do you have any talkgroup ID's programmed in? Sounds like you are running trunk mode in closed mode with no ID's entered in. Or at least no active ID's. If there are no ID's programmed in and you set it to trunk mode in the closed mode it will never stop.

I have entered 28 ID's so far into the bank with the trunked frequencies. As I mentioned before, if I don't set the bank to trunked mode, it will stop on the trunked frequencies and display the text names that I assigned to the talkgroup ID's. It's still showing other new talkgroup ID's though, even though I've set the bank to closed, but I assume that has something to do with the fact that I don't have the bank set to MO.

1. Program the control channel frequencies only into a bank.
2. Set each frequency as MOTOROLA.
3. Set the bank to MOTOROLA
4. Set the bank to CLOSED
5. Make sure the IDs you've programmed are not locked out. Some scanners have individual channel lock outs and sub-group On/Off controls.

With the above settings, you should not receive a talkgroup which you have not programmed.

Tried all that, still doesn't work as it should. I CAN receive audio but only when the bank is turned off trunking mode. That doesn't make any sense, but that's the only way it works.
