I have a problem with static and noise after the agency finishes the message. Frequency is 158.730 and is digital. After the transmission stops, the channel "hangs" with the squelch open and just noise continues for a few seconds to sometimes as long as a minute. I updated the DSP to 1.4 but I tried both version 1.2 and 1.4 and it does the same thing. I have the mode set for FM and the scanner seems to pick up the calls ok but about 90 % of the time, there's theperiod of irritating "open squelch" noise after the dispatcher stops talking. I also have the squelch threshold set very high but it doesn't seem to make any difference where it's set, the noise still breaks through. Does anyone know if there's a setting or software update that will reduce or stop this problem?

Pro-2096 noise problem

As a Radio Shack Tech I serviced many Pro-2096 scanners and your problem should not occuring. First of
all is this this the only frequency that your squelch appears to be staying open. If so you may have a
background interference or a "birdie" problem on that frequency. To diagnose the problem go to the
frequency and push the manual button to stay on that channel. Wait for a transmission and then after the
squelch stays open, disconnect the antenna from the back of the scanner. If the squelch immediately
closes then there is some kind of background interference holding the squelch open. The source of the
interference may be your computer so try moving your scanner to a different room.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I also monitor the VSP STARS Digital and it doesn't hang up on these frequencies; just 158.730. I'll try your suggestions for this frequency.
Thanks again.

I might add that I'm using an Antenna Specialist ground plane outdoor antenna. It's about 30 years old but has always worked fine for analog channels. Maybe I need something different for digital?

I am having the same issue, I have a radio shack antenna in the attic and when the traffic comes through, it's crystal clear, but I have that "Birdie" as well. Did you ever find out what was causing this? From someone who has many computers in there house, this could be a potential problem. Is there any way to filter this Birdie? Even my Minotor for my FD has this birdie and won't unsquelch.
