The keypad on my pro 43 has become unresponsive except for the light control.

All other controls are functioning ok and it still scans.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Im thinking possible solder joint maybe but dont have any idea where i might look.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my brother had a pro-43 do the very same thing and he had to send it off to RS for a new keyboard. There are others who have had to do the same. I hope your case is different, good luck.

This is a known problem with the PRO-43 and the solution is a new keypad. Radio Shack doesn't support this radio any more, but if National Parts can't find a keypad for you, maybe G&G Communications, Leroy, NY, can. He specializes in Uniden/Bearcat, but has parts for several types of older scanners. You can find the shop on the web.

The website for g&g communications is www.iinc.com/g&gcomm. If they don't have it, you might want to put an inquiry out on the rr "equipment wanted" section for a used or inoperable pro-43 that you could get a keyboard out of.
