Ok so its been a decade since my last scanner. Computer interface very cool. The programming cable that I was advised to purchase is a R.S. 20-047. The pro 433 is not on the list of compatatible scanners but they said it would work. There is a small pigtail that converts the jack from what appears to be from 3 wires down to 2. Can someone tell me if the pigtail should be hooked inline? The software seems to only load the cable itself and nothing to do with the scanner. I was advised that this disc would allow me to pull freq. off of the internet and into the scanner. This does not seem to be the case. After some research it appears that another program will be required. Any suggestions??Maybe im wrong but it seems like I should be able to give my zip code and select what to download on the scanner. Thank you all in advance. If there is another thread with the same old question I did not see it.

Yes, the 20-047 works with the 433.
That "pigtail" is a stereo to mono adapter. Just try it both ways. I seldom use my cable so I don't remember which works.

"The software seems to only load the cable itself and nothing to do with the scanner." What does that mean?

You do need a program. You can find the info on the PRO-433 Yahoo group.

You were advised wrong. The disc contains the driver for the cable. It has to be installed in your computer. It has nothing to do with getting freqs. from the Internet.

Do not purchase the ScanCatLite software without first looking through these forums so that you can make an informed decision.

I am pretty sure that the 433 needs the pigtail.

Thank you all for your wisdom. This has turned into more than expected. Radio Shack does not know the product. When I first called he said that they would load all the freq for our area right at the store.. What I really got was 11 pages of not much and a blank stare when I asked about loading the scanner. When I was active in this many moons ago most of my numbers came from my own scans and suspect it continues to be the best way. Thank you again and dont be suprised to see it on eBay!

Don't give up on it yet. The PRO 433 is a nice scanner, and is pretty easy to program by hand. The built in service searches are a good way to start, but it is easy to program.

Get Butel's ARC433. That's what I program my 433 with, and it works like a charm! I use Win97, Win96 and Win95 for my GRE scanners, and it's a pretty nice program, but for the 433, ARC433 works superb!

When I use my cable, I leave the little pigtail plugged IN. I'm not sure if it will work the other way or not though.

Ditch Scancat... Go with ARC433. You won't regret it.

Well actually that is what this site is all about. Yes, the forums are a good source of information when you have a question; however, the Database (link above) is a compilation of submissions of frequency information from people who do the scanning and report what they find.

It does not need the pigtail, mine works fine with out it. I also recommend ARC 433, it is the only way to go.

Thanks for the correction. :) And, I got snookered into buying ScanCat Lite, because the ARC was not out yet, which was the worst mistake I have ever made.

Will the Win 97 work for the Pro-433? I have the cable and Win 97 and it worked on my son's Pro-96, but won't work for my Pro433. It can't find the 'header'.

anyone know what I have to do to make it work?

As someone else mentioned in this thread, you need the ARC-433 program, but before you buy it make sure the PRO-433 will receive the systems you want to monitor. It can not do digital or re-banded trunking systems.
And unless you are programming hundreds of freqs, etc. you can probably do it manually in a half hour or so.
