For about two years now I've had and still have the Radio Shack Pro 95 Scanner. - Works very well and I'm satisfied but I have a couple of questions.

First I lost the manual so I'm in the dark with regards to the use of the features.

Wondering If I can receive Philadelphia Fire Depatment's two 800 frequencies that show as non trunked - How do I program it ? The Frequencies listed here @ Radio Reference say....866.075 and 866.7125 Type is M ; Tone is CSQ ; CH is North Analog and South Analog simplex LP ; Mode is FM.

Can I monitor this with the Pro 95 ? and if so How ?

Yes to your question about the two 800mhz simplex frequencies. CSQ means carrier squelch. Just enter them as FM. In fact every thing that is listed as non-trunked can be monitored by the scanner. You just can't program in any PL's.

I followed the directions from teh Cheat Sheet that was posted and I still don't think I got it right. I think Ineed basic programming for dummies. Does such a book exist ?

I'm guessing the Type of system used by PFD is Motorola Type I or II - I entered them both as conventional frequencies and nothing - I followed the Motorola Type I and II instructions and couldn't get past S07 before scanner told me system wasn't trunked

I'm no scanner genious, obvisouly but does anybody know if I'm on the right track

If the frequencies you are trying to program are not trunked motorola type I or II do not apply. You just have to put them in as FM. On this site, in the wiki, look under Radio Models.
Check under radio shack, pro-95. On that page you will find the "Easier to read manual" on the lower half of the page. That should help you with programming different types of systems

Thank-You the manual is easier to read - I'm still not getting anything on the frequencies so it's very possible the frequencies them-selves are no good. - I'll kep trying

I did see however that the channels are analog frequencies....Would this affect receiving them ?

The PRO-95 is an analog scanner, so you should be able to monitor them. If the frequencies were digital, you wouldn't be able to. Maybe these frequencies just aren't active?

Sorry to say that you really won't be hearing much of anything on those Philly fire analog frequencies. I have them in a few scanners and it is pretty rare to hear any traffic on them.

Thanks for all the help including the manual - I should be back on the right track soon. As far as the Phila. Frequencies go.....Thank-you DELCOLHFC I believe Phila. went completley digital a few years back but I'm not sure.

The Phila. Fire Buff Frequency seems to work ok {in the 400mhz. range} - Not as real time as the city it-self but gives an idea of what's happening.

Yes Philly is mostly digi with fireground ops encrypted, every once in a while you will hear someone saying they are switching to South or North analog, I haven't heard anything interesting there though.
Funny that you should mention the Fire Buff group (East Coast Radio Net now) being less than real time, i just had this discussion with my brother who monitors at work in Philly. They used to be pretty much real time but it seems that recently they are reporting happenings with quite a time lag, sometimes 10 min or more. Used to be that you could park on their freq and tune into the action when something started to go down, now if you did that you would miss the job! Don't know what the story is behind that.........
