My favorite is the Pro 106. Had about two months now and It is the best scanner I have ever owned.

You want a 106/197 because they support 700 MHz trunking and can be upgraded. the 96's are about 7 years behind in technology.

i owned more than one 96 but it's time has come and gone . Denver switched to ESK shortly before the democratic convention and the 106 works flawlessly picking it up. the 106 also supportsmilair which the pro 96 doesn't

Pro 197. Had mine since 5:30 on black Friday. With the help of a friend, I was up and running in about an hour. I have the Pro 97. Outstanding Scanner, still is in operation. The 197 pulls in a lot more signals, better signal strength, and the audio is clearer. Hearing all the digital stuff in my area now. Bar none the 197 gets my vote.

The 96 does everything my 106 will do here in Indiana. Plus it has better styling.

Pro-106, Don't own one but have played and programed 3 of them.Fine radios. Wish I had one.LOL

Having owned both, my vote is for the pro-106, although the first one I owned I sold off in about a month. It's really grown on me the second time around.

I bought the 197 last week, thinking about exchanging it for the 106. I think a portable would be a better use.

I haven't had any reception problems with my pro-106 since I've gotten it last Friday.

just make sure you grab a aftermarket antenna like the radioshack 800mhz

I use a '96 for my daily commute but it's limited.

The clear choice is 106/197.

I first got my feet wet with digital with the Pro96. Really enjoyed it, had a Uniden BC296D, a decent scanner now got a Pro106, delivered on Tues. Bar None the best radio I have, coupled with Win500, it is unbeatable!

Favorite Scanner

In a poll such as this everyone is obviously going to vote for their own scanner. I just bought the pro-197 and am totally amazed with it's quality, audio power and clarity and reception. All the other features it has, are enough to blow your mind. It's the type of radio you need to customize and get into in small steps until you can be dangerous with it. As far as the pro-106 goes, that was the scanner I was initially considering because it is almost identical to the pro-197 in features and more portable. The only problem is I already have an Icom handheld which has some amazing qualities of it's own such as a small LCD screen for viewing security cameras and other cameras. So it's kind of like if I want to go places, which scanner would I want to bring with? My older Icom IC-R3 to check out some good security cams or the Pro-106 to listen to some digital trunked groups To each his own but I think the security cams are more exciting so I chose the Pro-197 so I would have the best of both worlds.

I need the 106/197 here because we have a lot of LTR systems. The 96/2096 does not support LTR.
