Hoping someone can help me. I am trying to reprogram my Dad's Pro 96. He usually listens to the Memphis FD and Shelby county FD but for some reason the SCFD isn't working but half the time. I think it may have to do with the control channel on the motorola system being changed. I am trying to use a free version of the arc96 software because all of my stuff is now uniden. I have tried the import from RR but it didn't seem to work. Is there anyway to pull up the software and change the control channels manually? Im sure there is but i haven't messed with the pro 96 in years. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the systems in your area. I know here, when I programmed the new P25 (Verdugo Fire, Burbank PD, et al) Phase 1 trunked system on my Pro-96, it required custom tables. If the systems you mentioned are P25 Phase 1, you'll need to do that too. It could also be the system is P25, Phase 2, in which case the Pro-96 will not work with it. I hope that helps.

Additionally, while there was a firmware update to open up 700 MHz on the Pro-96, the 700 MHz segment cannot be used for trunking purposes. It will only work conventionally (i.e., non-trunked).

Connect your computer to the scanner. Go to he Scanner tab in ARC96 and Download from Scanner. It will transfer the programming from your scanner into ARC96. Save the file. You will need to right click on the file and Send to Compressed (zipped) folder to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and Open the zipped folder.

You had the frequencies for both the Public Safety and Operations sites in a single site. You can have only one control channel per site. The Public Safety site should not require a rebanded multi-table since the 4th digit of every frequency ends in 5. Millington East would require a rebanded multi-table. Your scanner may have been locking onto the Operations control channel causing Memphis PD and Fire not to work. The Pro-96 is capable of control channel only scanning. I deleted all of the frequencies except for the control channel and alternates of the Public Safety site for Memphis PD and Fire. Give the updated file a try. If there is still a problem, I will dig deeper. I only checked the Memphis PD and Fire systems. You Probably have the same problem with Shelby County. If so, use the same frequencies as Memphis. Do the same with all of the systems using that site.

Thanks for the help. I will give the updated file a try and see how it works. Thanks again

I checked and found a number of systems with the same frequency arrangement. Use the same 4 frequencies for all of them. For Public Works, use only the control channel and alternate frequencies of the Operations site.

I have never heard of this firmware upgrade. Do you know if it is still available and if so, where it is? I still use my PRO-96 and can live with having to program individual 700 Mhz frequencies in conventional mode.

It's not a firmware update. It's a setting in the programming software (win500 & arc500 both have it).

Keep in mind that if you do open the scanner up for bands it's not designed for, the sensitivity on these bands can and likely will vary greatly, and it won't be defective. It could even be as deaf as a post on 700 Mhz- and, as stated, it won't trunk there either.

Thank you. I found it in my copy of ARC96. Lots of stuff I haven't had a chance to delve into there.

Yeah. I worked in two way after retiring from my two previous careers. I have an IFR1200S so I can check sensitivity. As stated, YMMV with this trick. And I can live with the non-trunking ability. There aren't that many frequencies (yet) in the system I want to monitor so tracking in conventional mode is not much of an issue. If two conversations occur, I can live with that. I have a Uniden BC996P2 that I am progrmaming also so in the event more channels and users are added, it will be employed to monitor them. Also, rebanding is not related to 700Mhz band. It has to do with reallocation of 800Mhz freqs resulting from NEXTEL and other FCC actions. So, no problem there either. Thanks to all who responded.
