Pro-96 in Los Angeles.

My dad has an analog scanner and he stoped receiving police calls in the Los Angeles area so it's useless. I am wanting to buy him a gift (pro-96 scanner) soon. Is this scanner capable and reliable of receiving police calls in the Los Angeles area?

On a trip there a couple of months ago my PRO-96 did a fantastic job of picking up the digital traffic. There is a lot to listen to in the LA area.
