Hey Fellows,

I just got me a new Pro-96 today, and the reception seems to be poor on it. Could it be the v1.5 that came with it? I had a BC246T, and it had much better reception in the same spot. Please give me some advice. Should I stay with the v1.5, or should I go back to the v1.2? The v1.2 do a better job with my Pro-2096. Could it be the Antenna? Thanks!

The newest firmware version I know of is 1.4 I guess they are shipping them with 1.5 now, the newest one RS has on their website is 1.4 - I am currently using that, I have not noticed that much of a difference, but some people on here say that they do notice a big difference (for the better) after upgrading.

As for the antenna....It pretty much depends on what you are monitoring. For example, if you are monitoring mostly 800mhz, then I highly recomend the 800mhz antenna from RS. A lot of people on here agree, myself included, that you get much better reception with that.

Here is a link for it.

(just my 2 cents)

I don't think it is the version that is causing your bad reception. Try a better antenna and a better place.

Pro 96 reception

Thanks fellows! I didn't think the version would cause poor reception. I'll get a better Antenna.

poor reception

Both the Pro-96 and 97 suffer from front end overload from any near by transmitters, this is worse in urban areas where you have hi power FM, and TV and Nextel towers.
I have always had to find the best rubber duck for best reception does work.
If you connect the 96 to an outside antenna it gets even worse. I have found a cheap fix for the outside connection is to add the inline FM trap made by RS, that combination works well.

Enjoy your new radio.

Pro-96 poor reception:

Once again let me thank everyone for your input. Someone asked, what are you trying to monitor? the answer is; no certain thing. I just want good all around indoor reception. As I stated, my 2096 receives much better than my 96. I am looking at an Antenna called Max 8HH. Do anyone know anything about this Antenna? Is it worth investing in? Thanks!
