Two questions about the Pro-97. I have about 200 channels (non trunked) programmed into it with text tags. Yesterday all the tags disappeared but the freqs remain. Where the text tags were it now says what channel bank and channel it is on. Any idea what happened to the tags? I hate the thought of retagging 200 channels.
Also, the manual says that 2 battery holders are supposed to come with the radio...a black for alkaline batteries and a yellow for rechargable batteries. I never got a yellow holder with the radio. Did other 97 users get one?
Thanks

If you used Win97, the file that was loaded into the radio may have been different than what you wanted. I have two Pro-97s and have been distracted, in a hurry to go on a trip etc and programmed both of them as well as with the Pro-96 with the wrong files. Now, I double check everything before the cloning cable gets unplugged and put away. Yes, both of the battery holders are supposed to come with the radio. That particular one may have been a return to Radio Shack and somehow they didn't make sure all the parts were in the box when it came in.

When you're listening to a channel that you know you have properly tagged, try pressing the TEXT key. That key should toggle the alpha tag info from either the actual TGID number/frequency or the alphanumeric label you've applied.

I did that once and thought I'd lost all of it, but then I realized I was just in a panic and took a deep breath then pressed TEXT - voila... there they were. :)

Hope this helps... hopefully

When the scanner is stopped on a conversation press the TEXT key. I'm not sure if that works on conventional channels, but worth a try. What do you see when you go into MAN mode and look at each channel - are the tags still there?

You must have bought your PRO-97 from eBay. It seems that they either hold these things out separately to sell individually; or they obtain the scanner in a manner which they shouldn't (therefore only with one holder). Yes the scanner has 2 holders. The good news is that you can order yellow holders from your local Radio Shack. It must be ordered as "replacement parts" and is not something you will buy in the store. Most workers have no clue how to order parts, so expect to require a manager to do it. As I recall the holder is about $10.

Thanks for the responses. I don't have Win97...wish I did. Tried hitting the text button in all modes with no luck. The only other clue I can give is that just before this started happening the ac adapter plug started having a bad connection problem. Trying to find out now if it's the plug or jack.

The radio has to be in scan and stopped on a transmission for it to work. The bad AC plug could have caused a problem that's something that really is unknowable
