Hello everyone, I just went out and bought a Pro-97 1,000 channel Triple Trunking Hand Held Scanner. Radioshack programmed my radio for the county we are in. I help out for a local PD by my house and I would like to listen to their radio frequency. Is there any way I can find that frequency for my local town? Ive tried looking online, but I cant find it. Its popped up once while it was scanning but it wouldnt let me pause it. Any help would be great, thank you!

Ok thanks. For some weird reason, the scanner just stopped working and all I get is static now. Whenever I press scan, it goes to a different PD and just keeps the static. Any clue on what happened? Please...

It sounds like you are trying to monitor a trunked system, but your scanner is programmed to receive the frequencies in conventional mode.

You had mentioned talkgroups in a previous post, and you talked about the squelch control. If the scanner is programmed correctly, the squelch will have no effect in trunked mode.

Before anyone can help you , tell us the name of the state and the county you are located in, and what exact agency you're trying to monitor.

And I am trying to monitor the Village of Elm Grove Police (or Brookfield)

The guy at radio shack told me that the squelch is very important and that he programmed it for a trunked system. I'm not sure if he knows what hes talking about though...
Thanks for the help

Look at the database here:
http://radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=605

It appears that your county police are using a Motorola trunked system, and you should be able to receive it on the PRO-97.

You need to program the control channels (the ones in red). The mode must be set for "MO" (for Motorola). The bank must also be set to Motorola. If you do these things, and scan the system in open mode, you should hear the traffic on the system.

Look at the talkgroups at the link above; select and enter the ones you want and scan the system in closed mode, and you will only hear the traffic on those talkgroups.

Alright so i programmed those channels into the scanner. I don't know what I should put in for the text though, but thats alright. I also put in the talkgroups, and scanned in closed mode. I'm so confused though because so many of my frequencies have no text, so I dont know whos talking and where its coming from.

Your frequencies don't need any text, your talkgroups would benefit from having text tags. A text tag on a talkgroup would identify who is using the talkgroup. For example, instead of seeing the talkgroup number like 4240, you could label it "PD Dispatch", or anything you want.

Entering text tags is much easier if you use the WIN-97 programming software. You can get it here:
http://www.starrsoft.com/

Get the programming cable from Radio Shack, part number 20-047.

Also, you might want to read the wiki elsewhere on this site on the PRO-97.
