Hey I just thought I'd let everyone know that Radio Shack is selling the Pro 97 for $169.99 until November 11th. Sorry if this is a double post.

Cheers!

As much as I really like the 97, i would not pay more than $100 for it right now.. It's successor the PSR-300 is due out in a matter of weeks and it's like $200.. I'd pick that up if anything..

Greetings to all,

Radio Shack will have the Pro-97 on sale for $130 on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). Here's a link to their ad: http://bfads.net/1000Channel-Radio-Scanner-at-RadioShack

Also, overstockdealz.com has "like new" refurbished Pro-97s for $80. Here's a link to that: http://www.overstockdealz.com/products.asp?id=PRO-97R

I just purchased a Pro-97 from overstockdealz.com today and I should be recieving it in a few days. I'll let everyone know in a week or so how it went.

P.S. - I am a new member on this forum. I have no relationship to Radio Shack, overstockdealz.com, or Black Friday Ads.

What makes you think that? There are plenty of trunking systems that re-banding will not effect.

As I recall, last year on black Friday, some RSs had the '97 on sale for $99.99 but only until noon. After that it was still on sale, more than $99 but less than $199.

The issue about future pricing is all a guess IMO. If the new GRE scanners work correctly, since RS does not seem to be selling them, that could easily make the '97's price drop.

There are a lot of issues out there which will affect current scanners; rebanding is a mere drop in the bucket. What about "narrow banding"? What about 700 MHz? Rebanding and any transition to digital won't affect lots of places in the world all that soon. That will keep the '97 useful for many people. The re-sale price will depend largely on how many people want to sell used units and how many are willing to buy them.

Did your scanner come in? How was it dealing from overstokdealz.com?

Yes it did. I ordered it Monday morning 11/12 and recieved it Wednesday 11/14 via 3-day FedEx (a day early). $80 + $7 and change to Miami, Fla. In the box was: scanner, antenna, two battery packs (one for rechargeables, one for alkalines), 115 page user's guide, quick start guide, and pre programmed frequencies list. The scanner seems to be brand new. If it's refurbished, like I said it was, you can't tell at all. It performs flawlessly, but I'm new to scanning so it's taking me a while to learn about all of it's features.

I found overstockdealz.com on E-bay while searching for a Pro 97 but I bought it from their website instead. They have several other models available, but the Pro 97 seems to be the best value. They have a two week return policy which I don't think I'll be using, but it's good to know I can if I have to. I'd buy from them again.
