Hi guys, im new around here and need your help.

I bought a new Discone Antenna, i hook it up with my pro-97 and i dont receive nothing not even 144~148 band or VHF around 850.............but when i hook the discone with my pro-528 it works excelent.

Is there some setup with the pro-97 i need to change??????????

Thanks in advance, FerX.

Your choices are:
The antenna is shorted somehow.
Coax from the scanner to the antenna is absorbing all the signal.
The coax connectors on the line running to the antenna are open.
The coax connector in the scanner is open.

Set the Pro-97 to a frequency you KNOW has a signal it should receive and start eliminating the possibilities.

Bad connector

Your situation sounds weird and there must be more to it. I assume the '528 also has a BNC connector for the antenna, so this is totally a matter of connecting the same connector (leading from the discone) to either scanner. And I'd hope you've got at least one rubber antenna you can use as well.

The weather channel works good for this kind of testing since they are always broadcasting. Hopefully you can receive such a channel. I assume the '528 can receive this channel whether connected to the rubber or discone antennas. How about the '97? Does weather come in OK on the '97 & rubber antenna, but you get nothing with the discone?

What this sounds like to me is the connector on the end of the coax is not installed correctly. It only takes a hair of a wire to cause a short. Is the coax ONE COMPLETE LENGTH? Or are there "splices" or adapters inline? Something must be moving when you swap scanners.
