I am new to this hobby and have had my Pro 97 for a month and have spent hours researching how to use it. I still don't know if I am using the trunking properly. I live in Utah and have looked up the freqs in my county (weber). There is one control freq and ten other freqs listed for the Weber County Motorola Type II Smart Zone. When I went through my banks I found six of the freqs programmed in Bank 0. I am assuming I need to program the missing freqs including the control channel freq in also. So my question is, if I have all of the freqs programmed should I be able to hear the trunked broadcasts and do I need to have all of the freqs in MOT mode? Do I need to load all of the talk groups also? Thanks for any help.

If you plan on listening to the system in closed mode, then yes you will need to add talkgroups. (Closed will have the minus sign under the bank number, a plus sign will indicate the bank is open).

You will need to set the bank and each channel to MOT mode.

You should program all the freqs in. If you press the manual button while in that bank you should be able to hear the control channel and see talk group numbers and the percentage the Pro97 is able to decode along with the system number flash while monitoring the control channel.

If it's programmed in correctly you should be able to just press scan and it will do its thing and you should just hear the voice channels as normal.

Have you tried using Win97 and programming the scanner this way? Someone may already have a file for your area.

What is the purpose of doing that ??? Just program in the control and alternate channel .

It will work fine until they switch to a not yet identified Alternate Control Channel, then it won't hear a thing.

Exactly. I've seen a system mess up before.

I also like to scan the system as conventional to see if all the channels are working and if people forget to make their I-calls in encrypted mode.

Obviously, you know the TG #'s for the I-calls since the GRE scanners do not have that feature. Excuse me if I'm being obvious. That is just part of my nature;>}}
