When I turn the volume knob on my pro-97 there is a slight sound in the scanner's background. Nothing too loud just a little hiss. It's more noticable when there are no signals and you put the volume up real slowly. Just wondering if anyone else came across this too? Thanks.

It sounds like the volume control possibly needs to be cleaned. The same thing has happened on my radios in the past. I just went to Radio Shack and got some TV tuner cleaner. I sprayed a SMALL amount on it. It fixed the problem. I had to take the case off in order to access the control. In fact, the same thing is happening on my Pro-96 and Pro-97 now. Rather than go through taking them apart, I am just living with it, for now. If it gets to the point where it interfers too bad, I may have to try to clean them. Anyone else have an opinion?

This happens with my PRO-95, which is over four years old and has quite a few miles on it. It just seems to be typical metal part aging. It only happens when I'm making an adjustment to the volume, and doesn't interfere with my scanning at all, so I've left it alone.

That stuff works well. I made $ when I was in high school cleaning beer out of boom boxes with it. Sometimes you can just pop the knobs off and get enough to penetrate gaps in the potentiometer housing without comepletely taking everything apart.
The only thing that stuff can't clean is the cig damage when it eats the traces
