I'm trying to program an EDACS system into a PRO-164 scanner. I have successfully programmed the same system into two BC246XLTs and a BC364, so I'm familiar with the process. I have programmed a bank as EDACS and left channel 00 blank. What is happening is this: when I scan, after each voice transmission, I get the three beeps, and it stops on the control channel. I interpret this to mean that the scanner is not going into trunk mode. I've reset the scanner several times and tried two different towers and different banks with the same result. I'm running out of ideas.

So far, I'm running the scanner in open mode, so I haven't entered any talk groups. I would expect the scanner to stop on any transmission it finds.

I have a Pro-97 and it has been a while since I've looked at it, but I think the 164 is the updated version. I agree with you, I think it does sound like you are still in the conventional mode. I went back and looked at an EDACS system on my Win97. Do you have it changed from "Conv" to "EDACS"?

Have you programmed the individual frequencies as EDACS? You have to have both the bank and the channels for the frequencies as EDACS. The beeps indicate that you are not tracking the system. What system are you programming?

I bet that's the answer. I didn't notice that before on my program but that's the way it should be.

I'll program another bank and be sure the frequencies are entered as EDACS and report back. The system I'm programming is the Brevard County Florida system.

I'm entering the frequencies immediately after defining the bank as EDACS while I'm in programming mode. I don't see a way to redefine each frequency as EDACS.

When you enter a frequency, do you see the "mode"? You need to change that from FM to EDACS. You will have to do this on each of the system frequencies.

I think that's it. I was able to change the mode to ED AFTER I entered the frequency. Thanks!
