A few beginning trunking questions about modes/banks

1) I have one Bank (7) programmed for trunking, with all 800freq. channels in MO mode, unprogramed channels set to DC-code search. Talk ID are showing, but the scanner won't stop on any signals in while in Scan, so I have to Manually land on a channel to listen to signals - which are loud and clear. Possible solutions?

2) What mixed modes are allowed in same bank while in Scan?

3) If there is one channel in MO in a bank with mostly FM, will the scanner not stop on any signals or just the FM and pass over the MO? Does it effect the entire bank?

What system(s) are you wanting to listen to? What other services are you trying to listen to?

Scanning one system per bank is the easiest way to program this scanner. Scanning trunked and conventional in the same bank also works great.

My scanner won't allow mixing conventional and trunked systems in the same bank - it won't stop on signals in the 800 in MO/MOT. Only stops on channels programmed to FM/AM. For example, I have a bunch of public works and state police in the 800s programmed in Bank 9 with some 400 Mhz FM channels. To hear the public works and state police I have to keep the scanner in MANual.

Yes, your radio will allow a mix of frequencies besides a trunk system. You can program only one system per bank, but you can also program conventional frequencies in the remaining channels. Entering the Motorola control channel(s) in the first few channels of a bank followed by conventional channels works fine.

You can enter LTR system frequencies in LCN order in another bank of course setting the mode properly placing them in the correct channel numbers. Then you can mix in some conventional frequencies after that with proper mode

You can enter EDACS system frequencies in proper LCN order in another bank (starting with channel 01 of the bank). You can also add in conventional frequencies after that. You allow the scanner to scan, it will hear signals as long as you scan.

I have a mix of all kinds of frequencies without adverse affects, so I don't have a clue why you are having any problems. Remember to set the correct mode for the conventional frequencies. Do not mix LTR, Motorola or EDACS system control channels in the same bank, because that won't work.

Did you also set the bank to MO?
Did you also enter the talkgroup IDs?
Is he bank set to OPEN or CLOSED?

I did set the bank to Motorola.
I did not enter the talk groups (I got confused about how to do this part, got to this point a few times)
I sent the bank to OPEN since I didn't put in talkgroups.

thanks

When in the "MANUAL" mode stepping through the channels, do you hear the control channel? This channel will have a loud buzzing noise. If you "LOCKED OUT" this channel, unloock it then press SCAN.

Got it. It now stops on the channels with the LTR. I notice the scanner now properly flashes the "T" while in Scan, as it goes past or stops on those channels. But I didn't find the Motorola type 1 and 2 LTR on the exact frequecies I'm trying to listen to. For example, I want to listen to 868.7000, and I have most of the IDs written down and know the patterns of who talks, how often, but when searching for the LTR, I could only find them between 859.xxxx and 860.xxxx. So, I just programmed those channels and they are the only ones the scanner stops at.

Is there an LTR . LTC for every 800 freq I want to listen to and where to do I find it?

In Manual mode, as I step up the channels, not talk can be heard on these (why?) only the Type 1 or 2 repeater tone and instead of Talk ID texts, it displays "Control 97%" or "sys-and a 4 digit number" I have to have the scanner in Scan to hear the activity on these channels.

Sorry, but this process just wasn't explained well in the manual and my beginner status of using a Trunking scanner to actually Trunk is revealing itself.
