PRO-97 backlight

A lot of people have complained about the lack of ability to control the backlight as well as we'd like on the '97. Your choices are:
1. OFF
2. ON (never turns off)
3. ON for timer then turns off
4. OFF, turns on with SIGNAL, then times out.

Now I know you're talking about option 4, but here's the catch - it only works that way in POWER SAVE MODE! And to get the scanner into power save mode it must be in MANUAL. It won't go into power save if "held" on a trunked channel. You'd have to turn the light on, stop the scanner on a specific channel, wait for power save mode to kick in.

If you press the light button at initial startup it will give you options to set the time it stays on, have the light come on with a key press the I ignores the first press, only if the light is off, and turns the light on a second press activates the key, the K turns the light on and the key works at the first press. When I or K is selected the light comes on when the scanner is first turned on.

edit: it helps to search before posting, let this be an example haha

Page 62 of the pdf owner's manual:
"In any backlight mode, you can press and hold for about 1
second to force the backlight on full time. Press while the
backlight is on to turn it off."
