I am using my pro97 software to try and upload my information to my pro-97 scanner. I am using a serial to mini cable. Whenever I try to send to the scanner it says there was a problem communicating with the scanner. I unchecked "verify" and now it is sending it, however it doesn't.

What should I do?

Thanks!

Make sure in Configuration>Serial Configuration that only the last box is checked (Enable Readback Tests) Also, make sure oyu have the correct Com port selected.
I assume you are using the greay RS cable...is that correct??

Are you positive the correct com port is selected?

I have a newer motherboard and I could have sworn it would be com1, but the usb cable was on com3; nothing was on com2.

Likely a USB>Serial cable.

J,

Make sure you have the correct comport set. Look in the Comport section of Device Manager. Prolific USB to Serial in my case as in this pic.

I have checked that, and it fails when I enable that. Also the correct com ports are selected.

I am using this cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...nner+cable&kw=scanner+cable&parentPage=search it is a serial scanner programming cable.

Thanks,

That is not the correct cable (despite what the words say on the page you linked). The correct serial cable was 20-289, no longer listed on the site. The one you have was used with older scanners and used to come in the software kit 20-048 when it was sold. Now that software is a free download, but it has nothing to do with the more up to date scanners like the Pro-97. If you can find a 20-289 in a store, it will be on clearance as discontinued. GRE no longer makes or distributes them either and a quick look on the Internet for the designer of the cable shows that Larry (patent holder) no longer makes them either.

A lot os RS employees will tell you this cable will work with the 96 and 2096, but it does not as the others have mentioned!
I also noticed one other thing about that link; it mentions Starrsoft as providing software, but Don does not provide software for any of the listed radios:
20-314 -> Pro-79
20-315 -> Pro-82
20-422 -> Pro-2016
20-423 -> Pro-2017
20-424 -> Pro-2018
20-514 -> Pro-89
