If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

PPS is updated, the radio is connected and shows up in the PPS, and I get the "can't connect" error. I've tried many cables, installing new Unication driver, etc. This is in Windows 10, trying on several machines. Don't quite know why it will show up but not transfer data. Would anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

hi footage. you updated the pps did you update the firmware..
While it appears to have updated OK, I'm not 100% certain it did because of the connectivity problem. That said, I did not get the error message when I ran the firmware update.

Yes, I installed that driver.
Since you updated the firmware. How about removing the alternate driver? See if it works with teh regular driver (probably have to reinstall PPS after removing the driver.

I think there is an information screen on the pager that will tell you what version the firmware is installed. At least you would know.

What exactly is the 'the "can't connect" error'? Is it on the pager's display? The PPS software? Somewhere else? What is the exact text of the error? (or post a screenshot or photo)

The FW version is V0.90_0.14A_T7F. The pager and PPS connect fine and PPS indicates 1 device with the proper serial number (but no model number) connected. When I try to read the pager, PPS returns a "communication error" message.

I tried an alternate method of creating and loading a new profile. But the PPS does not show the model number for my pager, which is GS442RE-SXXXEN1500UNI. (This was a very early purchase). When I guess at a model number and then build a profile, the PPS returns a message that this is an old pager and I need to contact customer service.

I have not had problems connecting or programming in the past, but the machine on which I used to run PPS has died, so I am working with a newer version of PPS.

I hope this makes the problem clearer.

That firmware is ancient. I'm not sure if the current PPS can work with it. I think you're going to need to get it updated first (or try to find the ancient version of PPS).

Right. I think the communications problem might be preventing the FW update. Will retry that tomorrow.

I touched the pager with the PPS from year 2015, which communicated fine, and I was able to program it. But there is no way to update firmware. Any newer version of PPS won't communicate, and the firmware update requires loading a newer PPS (in fact, the firmware update link at Unication USA points right to the new PPS which doesn't connect). And I realized it's a pre-phase II unit. So I need to somehow update firmware to enable Phase II and use new PPS. Unication experts, any thoughts? Is there a path to update this unit here? Or does the pager have to go back to the factory?

PPS is not involved in the firmware update, but you need to use the corresponding version of PPS *after* updating the firmware. It may be that you have to go through several steps of firmware upgrade. What happens if you try to go through the normal firmware update process (http://autoup.unicationusa.com/)?

I tried that several times, and the software sees the pager until it comes time to pass data. Then connection fails. Old PPS works fine all the way. I think my FW is too old to accommodate an FW update. I looked for older FW versions to step through it have not yet found them online.

Which software fails? Again, *PPS is not involved in the firmware update process*. If you're using PPS to attempt to update the firmware, you're doing it wrong.

The oldest firmware image I have in my collection is V1.10. I think my G5 came with V1.00 installed. It may be that you need something between V0.90 and V1.10, but I can send you this image privately, if you want to try it...

When I navigate to Unication's firmware update link, it appears that downloading current PPS must precede a FW update. That seems quirky. Looking at the flowchart at the top of the form you must complete before download (Unication Auto↑Up), I see four icons: info, pps, backup, firmware, done. It appears as if downloading the new PPS is a prerequisite to getting to the firmware.

And yes, thanks -- I would appreciate trying your older firmware image.

I think what they're trying to accomplish there is getting a driver in place that can talk to the pager (the driver gets installed by the PPS installer). You already have a driver in place, otherwise your older PPS wouldn't be able to communicate, so I think you should focus on the firmware update.
