HI All!

I am still having problems with Pro96com, very unstable. It did not want to work with my USB to Comm Port converter so I got a PCI comm card and it is no better. Reboots on its owne, stops talking to the radios, the Pro96 stops talking to the BCD96T. I updated the drivers, updated XP. Just running out of options. I love the Idea of the program but it is giving me alot of pain. Anyone havine these problems, anyone know how to solve them. I have no problem with Win96, USAD or most of the other programs they talk to the radios the radio talke to the computer without fault. Confused?????

Is there anything you can tell me about how long it runs before this happens? I've had very few reports of any issues like the ones you're describing. Most of these types of issues have been traced back to hardware/BIOS issues.

Pro96Com Problem

Ok!
I have a HP Media CenterPC m7170n, Running XP Media Center. First time the problem started was day one. I was using IOGEAR Serial to Serial Adaptor, that caused the computer to reboot any where from start of the program (Pro96Com) to the longest time 2.5 hours. I then got the latest drivers for the adaptor, that did nothing same problem. So then I felt it maybe the adaptor it self so I went out and got a PCI bus, 2 comm. port card (Best Ports Connection) downloaded the newest drivers loaded them. Then the problems started with it. This card the problems are about the same but it does not reboot. The software will stop reading the comm port on the BCD396T and not sent the freq. to the radio. If I click on "stop data read from Pr0-96" I will get an error and the software will shut down and stop running.

I also use Uniden's programning software for the BCD396T, and it has no problems. I also use Win96 to program the Radioshack Pro-96 and it has no problems. I also use BCD396T Advanced Virtual Control software and it has no problem, with the comm card or the USB to Serial adaptor. I do not attempt to run any two at the same time.

I like your software but it is driving me crazy.

Can you get me the text of that message the next time it happens. That may allow me to track down the problem.

You may have already done this, but if not, check your HP for a lot of needless junk running in the background, and launching automatically at StartUp. HP is great for this, and it can cause conflicts with other software. Also make sure your anti-virus is up to date, and scan your entire system, not just a smart scan. Same for anti-spy-ware software. Lavasoft's Ad Aware is good, as is Spybot's Search & Destroy (make sure you get the right one, there is an impostor that actually installs spy-ware). A good source for these if you don't already have them is:

http://www.download.com

Also make sure all your cooling fans are dust free. The power supply, the CPU, and possibly your video card. Overheating can cause symptoms similar to what you're experiencing.

Problems with Pro96Com

I have nothing running in the backround. I deleted all of HP's junk, if it is notneeded for the operating system it is gone. This just something that I do with all of my computers. Right now I am running the HP Media Center PC m7170n and Compaq Presario SR1913WM. The HP has all of the radio programs only two do I have a problem with, ID Tracker is the other program, it says "Initialization Failed" every time.
Pro96Com will give the windows error screen.
Now the Pro96 is not talking to the BCD396T. It is not sending the freqs. to it. I just did a reboot lets see. I am using NetMos's latest drivers. The card is just 2 comm. port card. I did use a USB to serial adaptor. With that I had a reboot problem. I do not use the computer as a Media Center, it is just web and radio. The Bearcat USAD software works no problem. BCD396t Advanced Virtual Control software works no problems.

Is the way that the other programs address the comm. port different then you do on this program? Just strange. I am a bit crazy as it is and this is driving me over the edge.

Problem with Pro96Com

HI
This is the error:
Ecpttion Eaccess Violation in Module Pro96com.exe at 00A8084 Access Violation at 004A8084 in Module Pro96com.exe Read of address 00000010

That is what pops up from time to time after the windows "Do you want to send" window.

Hope it helps you (and me).

Thanks
Al

If you're not using the internal modem, pull it. Then go into Add/Remove Programs, and delete any drivers, fax/modem software related to it.

Problen With Pro96Com

Mike

The Fax/modem is long gone. I could not find any drivers for the fax/modem left on the system. The only comm port assigned are 3 & 4, and I am using on the comm port card.
I am using the latest version on Yahoo Pro96 1.4.05 or something like that.

Although this is a software product that deals with scanning, it really is a decoder program and hence this discussion belongs in that forum.

Thread is moved to the appropriate forum.

Unfortunately the source code has changed since that release, and the error address in the message doesn't bring me to a good location to look at. I hope to be able to kick out a new realease here in the next week or so. No major changes, although I did fix something that was causing a crash in some real remote circumstances.

On another note, which system are you trying to monitor? Is it a 800Mhz system or something else?

Problems with Pro96Com

Pro96Com is a great program. But for some reason it does not like my computer. It is so intermitten. Most of the time it will not talk to the BCD96T. The computer screen will show the data but I will hear nothing from the BCD96T. The BCD96T knows that it is getting data, it switches mode like it is going to work. It just does nothing but break squelch for a half second and nothing. I am using the newest drivers I can find for the comport card(old ones don't work any better). The dual port card I am using is a NetMos card made for Best Ports Connection. It is plug and play, Supports PCI IRQ sharing, Supports 32 bit PCI bus Spec 2.1, Supports remapping and works with XP. It should work. When I " Stop Data Read From Pro96" it will show a error and ask if I want to "DeBug". It realy is kicking me in the but. Anyone have any Ideas. I want to ise the program so not using it is out the window. Does anyone know of a PCI card that works with a HP Media Center PC m7170n. Ihe USB to comm Port adaptor by IOGEAR don't work. When I use it with the computer and Pro96Com it causes the computer to reboot, over and over.

Moved to the Decoder Forum.

Pro96Com is a DECODER program, and hence discussions should be here or the APCO forum, not the Scanning Software forum.

Hi Al;

Mike does good work when it comes to creating pro96com. That said, there are a million different possible configurations out there. He can't possibly test every single one. On top of that, the program doesn't install any funky drivers or do anything extra ordinary when it comes to talking over the serial port to the radio. Any BSOD issues are very likely some sort of hardware failure or crappy Windows driver. This could be a USB host controller or USB bus driver problem. There's a small chance that you've hit a genuine bug in the program (but I sincerely doubt that).

Try this ... sign up on the pro96com Yahoo! group. There's a solid concentration of pro96com users there. If someone there has previously dealt with this problem - they can offer their insight. It's also possible that the ensuing conversation may give Mike some insight or idea on a way to code a work-around for un-cooperative hardware.

What's a BCD96T? PRO96COM is designed for the Radio Shack PRO-96 and PRO-2096 scanners.

Hi Dave;

pro96com can control a second radio (connected to a second serial port) to follow voice calls. The second radio needs to be P25 voice capable radio - like the '246T, '396T, '996T, etc).

I'm hoping to get a new version out this week some time (No major changes, but fixes a couple issues, particularily with Queued grants.)

When I get that out there, please try it and let me know if it still does the same thing. If it does, and gives you an error message like that, please send me the text of the message.

Thanks,
Mike

Problems with Pro96Com

Hi All!

Well I moved Pro96Com from the HP computer to the Compaq just to see if it would work better. It does for the most part. I still have a bit of a problem with the Pro96 talking to the BCD396T. When the program starts it will not talk to the BCD396T, I have to put the BCD396T back to scan 3 To 6 times and it will start talking. The other problem that I have is the program will shut it's self down after a bit of time (you never know when).

Anyone also have this problem, any fixes.

Thanks
Al
