program a 396 from 996 data base

I am getting a 396, will the data base from my 996 down load to the 396? I used the Uniden software on my pc.

Sure. It will go from the 996 to the 396, or the other way. Also interchangeable (within the Uniden software) for the BR330T, the BCT-15, & the 246T. (Going to/from the 246, you do have to edit the quick keys because the 246 only uses 10, whereas the other scanners allow 100.).

Just download & install the 396 version of the software, then you can use Windows Explorer to copy whichever (or all) system files from the 996's systems directory to the 396's. Remember that the 396 does not have the multi-site trunking capability of the 996, so you would need to tweak any file set as a multi.

To change the configuration of the BCD396T software to point to the existing 996 database.
After installing the BCD396T Uniden software:

Change the BCD396T software to point to the BCD996T systems folder.

In the BCD396T UASD, under 'Setup' > 'Options' > 'Data Base' tab
change the 'System Database Folder' to:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\UASD_DataBase\BCD996T\UASD_systems\

You can do the same for the 'Configuration' folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\UASD_DataBase\BCD996T\UASD_config\
