Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can a 470-520 MHz Astro Saber be programmed to operate in the 460.XXX range? Would some type of HEX modifications be necessary? Would the 440 Mhz range be a stretch?

Thanks for any and all help?

The first four of the serial number are H04S. According to Batlabs (Astro Mobiles) the 4 indicates 470 - 520 mhz. So this might not be accurate?

The main site at Batlabs is way out of date. The correct splits for the Astro Saber what bezking stated.

There are two UHF splits and they are identified by the 4th character, i.e., "R" or "S". The R indicates 403-470 and the S indicates 450-520. There is no "Q" split Astro Saber.

Astro Spectras are another story.

You have an S-split radio - 450-520 mHz, so your frequencies in the 460 range will work fine with no modification necessary.

Batlabs links the Astro Portable to the Astro Mobile model breakdown chart. That's why there's confusion over the bandsplit.

In general, when you look at the first letter after the H in the model number, it usually means:
Q: 380-470
R: 403-470
S: 450-520
K: 136-174
U: 700/800 mHz
