Programming a BCD436HP to single VIPER tower

Want to monitor off of only the Baker Mountain site in Catawba county, mainly interested in Catawba County Sherriff's Dept. TG's,new to this scanner and digital P25 systems, any help appreciated, seem to be having some multipath interference and missed transmissions, even when on channel/dept holds....

Do a site hold. Function, then department key. Holding on a talkgroup does not hold on a site if multiple sites are in range.

No, they don't. If sites are still cycling, you did a department hold instead of a site hold.

As @jonwienke indicates you’re locking the department out. Try avoiding everything except the Baker Mtn site. There are well over 200 VIPER sites that you may be cycling through. You may be hitting Anderson Mtn, River Bend, and other adjacent sites. Also, if you are only interested in the CATSO, use Avoid to lock Departments out that you don’t want to listen to.

Yes, it’s certainly the quickest way, but since you seemed to be having some difficulty and you definitely just wanted CATSO, thought it would be an alternative. Your radio is a 436, correct?

As you seem to have some simulcast interfering issues your scanner will jump to another site when it gets to many data error in its decoding of the data stream. So yes, holding on to just one site are the best solution.

Do the recommended site hold procedure. If you lock out all sites but one, and don't use Site Hold, it will skip the system and go to the next system in the scan cycle as soon as it sees too many errors in reception, thinking it is an encrypted call. @JoeBearcat , We really need a way to program only certain TG's to use the flag "skip the system if encryption detected" (or at least a way to disable it globally).

Thanks for all the advice,I got the site hold on Baker Mountain, and alternate between locking on Catawba county sheriff's department and letting it scan my favorite list of local departments, seems to help the multicast dropouts quite a bit,also seem to be hearing all the traffic now,thanks!
