To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there a way to program talkgroups on my Kenwood TK-373G radio from the decimal formant that is listed in the database. In the radio software, it asks for encode & decode ID's. to program talkgroups in the software would I use the last number of the decimal format? (example: decimal talkgroup 1-01-024. Would "024" be the ID number?) Any help is appreciated.

using your example, 1-01-024 breaks down to Area=1 Home Repeater =01 Group ID=024. you don't enter it as all 1 thing, each segment has it's own field.

Go to the "repeater" menu option to to set the area and home repeater, then set the group for each channel separately. I know with most Kenwood radios groups with different areas / home repeaters have to be in different banks.

The system I want to program is Potowatomi Bingo & Casino. They have 7 frequencies in use. Do I have to use separate banks for the seven frequencies & the talkgroups associated with them or do I use one bank, go under "repeater" and put in all 7 frequencies. I am not sure how to program the information into the radio service software since I am new at programming LTR systems so I am including the link for the system.

put the repeaters in under teh system, each frequency MUST be associated with the same repeater # as the system uses, usually something like 1,5,9,13,17, etc... i can't be specific, i have not used that software before but i have programmed many Uniden/Standard/Moto/etc.. LTR radios.

So we need to distinguish "frequencies" an "channels" - there should be several frequencies (456.78, 876.54, or whatever). These need to be put in the *right* numbered section under repeater - so repeater frequency 1 goes in slot 1 and so on. They won't necessarily be sequential. Here you also put the area and home repeater number.

Channels are the different "talkgroups" you use and have 3-digit identifiers. These go in the "encode" / "decode" sections (same in each)

You can put as multiple channels in one bank so long as they all share the same home repeater. You can also make multiple banks with the same repeater info and the same or different area/home values

A good overview is at Logic Trunked Radio - The RadioReference Wiki
