Programming cable adapter

Hello from Central Florida,

Please help with a technical question on the Radio Shack scanner programming cable. I have the USB programming cable 20-047. The cable has a subminiature stereo plug on the end, but lacks the adapter to match the jack on the scanner.

I suspect I could easily make the adapter if I knew which connection is which. The tip of the subminiature plug would go to the tip of the mono miniature phone jack of the scanner. But which of the barrel connections would connect to the barrel of the scanner PC jack?

I'm not sure about the Uniden made Radio Shack scanners that use the cable but for the GRE made ones the adapter isn't necessary. The info from RS is wrong. I did a test and on my Pro-97 it actually works with both the mono and stereo plugs. Don Starr has posted a number of times on the fact the adapter isn't needed.

Which radio are you trying to connect to? Radio Shack scanners for the longest time have used mini (1/8th inch) plug. sometimes a stereo cable end and sometimes a mono cable end. The 20-0047 cable has a stereo mini plug on the end and comes with a mini stereo to mini mono adapter section

I've used it without the adapter on the 93, 97 and 96. Doesn't seem to make any difference.
