Good Morning, I would appreciate it if one of our members could give me the technical description of the programing cables for the SD100 & SDS200 Scanners.
Thank you, Dave

Its just a micro USB cable, there is really no best, as long as it isn't "power only" but anything off amazon should work.

Yes, they are "standard" USB data cables - with one exception.

The SDS100 is sensitive to voltage drop if you have the radio on and are also charging simultaneously.
Then, you need a cable with heavier power wires in order to not cause a voltage drop, causing a low voltage error.

Look for cables with "AWG24" in their description.
These have the 'heavier' wires needed in order to charge while on without the error popping up.

No.... not correct (if you want to charge while radio is powered on)
See my other post ("AWG24")......

“But anything off Amazon should work”… NOT TRUE. I ordered 2 of the right angle plug cables recommended by someone who said they worked for programming. They don’t. Change that last line to read “Most anything”.

OK, for all that's interested and maybe at one point good to know information, this is the information I was looking for.

SDS200 Scanner requires this programing Cable ; USB 2.0 A-Male to Micro B Cable, 6 feet, Black
SDS100 Scanner requires this Charger / Programing Cable ; USB 2.0 Charger Cable - A-Male to Mini-B Cord - 6 Feet

A special Thanks to all that contributed to this posting ...

Oddly, I have problems with the right angle cables too.

For mini USB there are 2 types of cables. Data cables (data and charging) and charging only cables Many years ago phones charged much slower and the charging only cables would use the data pin to provide additional charging capabilities. So some mini USB cables were designed for charging only while others were data and charging. Its possible these right angle ones you got were charging cables only.

In the case of both right angle cables I bought and didn't work, they were advertised as data cables.

I usually buy my cables at ‘Cables To Go’ on the net. Only have had trouble with one cable in which I loaned to a friend. He kept it for months than gave it back. Compared to my other cables, the borrowed one had much thinner wire. Guess he left it out in the sun and shrunk.

What problems do you have? The post that one recommended one to me said it would work for programming the SDS200. It doesn’t do that and since it’s not looking to recharge the battery like the SDS100, the cables are useless, well almost useless… I use them as dust covers!

No data connection on the S100. I attempted to use the right angle cables on that to alleviate strain on the connector.

Ok. Thanks. But once burned so I need to ask… can you use the cable to program the SDS200? (I obviously don’t need it to charge any battery… it’s not the SDS100.

Yes, as mentioned in my post I'm using those cables for 2 of my SDS200 scanners. Also using the right angle LAN cable.

The cable I linked to is called a left-angle micro USB cable, but the orientation of the micro USB socket on the SDS200 allows the cable to exit to the right of the scanner so that it doesn't interfere with access to the SD card slot..
