System is for Marin county CA. Not going to try to explain how it works because I’m not sure. The entire county, cities, police, fire. Etc all use he same system.
Several departments use same Chanels.
I have it set up and it works. However I don’t really want to listen to the whole county at once. I would like to be able to listen to individual cites and just fire or police for example.
I was going to try to install the system in each bank and then lock out what I don’t want. When it’s active you see bank, Chanel, & frequency. However I have noticed different departments using the same frequency so not sure that would work. (I also can not remember how I programmed this in the first place. Did it several years ago and have back ups from Win96)
Any way to do this?

Sounds like you have the frequencies for the trunking system programmed as conventional frequencies.

You need to program it as a trunked system. That'll allow you to choose which talk groups you want to listen to.

If you are just listening to the frequencies themselves, you'll hear everything that passes through that trunked site.

What scanner do you have?

The Pro-96 allows only one site per system. There are 5 sites in the Marin County system. It appears that the main sites in Marin County are East Zone and West Zone. Set the frequency Mode to MOT.

If you want the capability of monitoring the entire county, you will need to setup 5 systems with each using a different site. You can enter only the talkgroups you want or lockout or delete ones you don't want. If you are entering manually using the software, the systems are setup as Motorola with Mot 3600 Multi Tables.

CH Lo: CH High: Base: Offset: Step:
380 569 482.0000 380 12.5
570 738 488.0000 570 12.5
739 759 490.7250 739 12.5

If you download directly from the RR database, the system and site setups will be done automatically. You want the systems set for Closed Mode. Otherwise, you will hear everything on the system, not just what you have programmed.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried downloading from here. Everything goes OK until i click "import this system". Another box pops up to select target bank. Also a place to input "first target channel", "first target talk group", "first target talk group subbank".
Apparently these need to be filled out before it will do anything.
Have no idea what I am supposed to put in or what it means.
Was also looking for other programming software. The only other I see is ARC96.
Any opinions on which is better and/or easier to use or are there others out there? (for Pro-96)

The Pro-96 has 10 banks (0-9). Each bank can accept up to 50 frequencies (channels). Each bank has up to 150 talkgroups divided into 5 (0-4) sub banks of 30 each. I don't have a premium membership or a Pro-96. I have programmed several Pro-96 scanners for firefighters manually using ARC96. I would assume with the database download that you select the target bank (0-9) you want to program. The first target channel, first target talkgroup, and first target sub bank I assume would all be 0. Please let me know what selections are available for each.

Boxes are prefilled with "0". didn't work. Tried with a "1". No change. It shows "sites 5" , "talk groups 38".
There's a box next to these. I clicked the box. (never did this before). Didn't work because I never got to where I could select or see anything.
It did load. Scanner is working. It appears you can manually select certain groups but each group needs to be on a separate bank to listen separately.
It was nice back in the olden days when everything came with complete instructions.
Think I have what I need for now. Thanks for all the assistance.
Will most likely have more questions.

Sounds like the boxes tell you how many sites and talkgroups you downloaded. You can only have one site per system. It would take 5 banks to be able to monitor all of the sites. How many banks did it program? Are you using Win96 or ARC96?

Win96. The entire "system" loads on one bank. There are 19 frequencies listed. (482.xxx - 488.xxx) Still don't completely understand it.
Different frequencies show up on scanner. It works.
You can select individual groups.
Program works great if you can figure it out.

If you program more than one control channel frequency in a single site, the scanner will scan the site of the first control channel it finds. You should have only one control channel per site. Try doing the download again, but select only the site closest to you. You can also look at the frequency list of the 5 sites and lockout or delete all of the frequencies except for the control channel and alternates for the site closest to you.

Actually the PRO-96 will scan sequential entries of the MO type until something else comes up or it finds the end of the bank. You can do multiple sites of the same system easily by entering a 0.0000000 MHZ blank FM entry between the sites. You can also put any other kind of active entry as long as it is not MO.
