I had a question I emailed to Uniden about programming steps. Here is their response:Your Question:
On pages 10-11 of your manual there are frequency steps listed. On page 78, there is an auto select. I am using ARC246 program to store my frequencies. For each frequency or group of frequencies should I use "AUTO" for the steps or individually select the frequency steps. I was hoping auto select would do this for me.

Our Solution:
Thank you for using our system.
Auto is generally the way to go. It will allow the frequency to be programmed as entered. If you choose a stepping level then the entry may round up or down depending on what is selected. This will result in missed transmissions.

Sincerely,

The only time I veer away from using the 'auto' step size for conventional channels is when I want to listen to a narrow-band vhf frequency like 155.1525. I would set the step size for that frequency to 7.5. All the others, I leave as their default 'auto' setting when programming with the Arc software or programming directly in the scanner.

I have another email to Uniden concerning using the "Auto" on modulation - all scanner books that I have report FM frequencies (conventional) and of course this scanners defaults to the NFM. I chose FM. I have not heard back from Uniden on this one.

396 mode change

... we may have to manually change to AM mode when seeking the 300mhz military air bands on both the 396 and 246?...Bob.
