once i have figured a watch list from radioreference, how is it programmed into my scanner via usb cable? is there any additional software i need to purchase?
Newbie here in the scanning community and was needing help with my WS1065. I am mostly interested in finding a program that allows me to listen to frequencies in Carter County, KY. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Welcome to the RR forums. Why not tell us where you're from and/or the agencies you intend on monitoring so we can verify the WS1065 is the right tool for the job
Just bought a WS1065 scanner, tried to program manually but beyond my pay grade, I have set up a radioreference account and have set up a watch list for collier county florida. Is there anything else i need to do, such as programming software before i plug in the usb cable? thank you folks for any tips.
Your scanner should be OK for Collier County. You will not be able to receive the Sheriff or Naples PD. They are fully encrypted and cannot be received by any scanner. Although the P25 system is Phase 2 capable, all of the talkgroups are currently Phase 1 which your scanner can receive. It would help to know your city. There are 8 sites and your location is needed to determine the best site or sites. As Whiskey3JMC mentioned, you may experience simulcast distortion depending upon your location.
I'll add that if you monitor the Naples Simulcast you may experience simulcast distortion depending on where you're located relative to two or more simulcasting cells. Whistlers are especially notorious to fall victim to simulcast distortion
