We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. Im interested in purchasing the PSR-400 for general scanning of conventional systems. I have very little to no trunking in my area at all. Will this scanner work and be a wise choice for future trunking when my local area goes this route? I currently have a PSR-100 and it works great for what I listen to. I just want a good base scanner for my kitchen counter top. Also can I program my local conventional channels in by hand or will I need to use win/97...or similar software...?

You can certainly program conventional frequencies by hand. It's no harder on the PSR-400 than any other scanner. As a matter of fact it's very much the same as the PSR-100 on conventional frequencies.

Jerri, Thank you for the reply. One more question, how about the Pro-433 would that be the better choice as far as programming and conventional scanning? The 433 has very high reviews and I believe it is being discontinued at RS.
