Im interested in purchasing the PSR-400 for general scanning of conventional systems. I have very little to no trunking in my area at all. Will this scanner work and be a wise choice for future trunking when my local area goes this route? I currently have a PSR-100 and it works great for what I listen to. I just want a good base scanner for my kitchen counter top. Also can I program my local conventional channels in by hand or will I need to use win/97...or similar software...?

You can certainly program conventional frequencies by hand. It's no harder on the PSR-400 than any other scanner. As a matter of fact it's very much the same as the PSR-100 on conventional frequencies.

Jerri, Thank you for the reply. One more question, how about the Pro-433 would that be the better choice as far as programming and conventional scanning? The 433 has very high reviews and I believe it is being discontinued at RS.
