I just finished programing a PRO-197 by hand for a friend,he also had the RS cable.Unfortunately all of the demos I had were expired.I wish there was a free app to program these radios. My problem is even if I could afford them is that I only use cash or M.O. for the things I by.

PSR-500/600/PRO-106/197 Software

Have you considered asking a friend/relative/neighbor to buy the item with their card and then giving them the cash?

Just curious if there is a real purpose behind this thread? Developing a programming app takes hundreds of hours, and in the world we live in today very few can do that for free. Recovering your costs and making money is the smart thing to bank on.

Social Security doesn't go that far.

Hey, consider yourself lucky..

My Social Security will be every penny I scrimp and save and probably a part time job at Walmart...

Hey, just realized I'll have great monitoring of Wally World's security while I'm greeting customers;-)

rdale,
Yes it does if you consider that GRE made software for other scanners so why not PSR-500/600.
Just wondering?

Try a pre-paid debit card, otherwise programming by hand works well and it's FREE. :)

i'm on social security disability. i get a whopping 859.00 a month and i spent the 35 bucks for win 500. also if you can afford a pro-106/197 psr500/600 you can spring for the program. just my opinion

I don't mind spending the $35.00 for the program, but they should at least support the program for that cost. I paid $25.00 for the Win97 with no support, that was ok as the radio is pretty straight forward to program. Now they want $35.00 for Win500 with no support. No matter what flavor of software you purchase there is no help file. With the complexity of the new Object Oriented Scanner I can under stand the added cost of the program, but there should be some support for that money. Just my opinion. I for one can not see spending this money for the Win500 which I can not get to communicate with my radio. I can get PSREdit to communicate with my radio but it does not have all the bells and whistles of Win500.
Sorry for the long comment.

GRE doesn't sell that software, so there's no connection.

Not for $35... Microsoft sells Office for $500 and they don't give any support. That's why we have a community - I can't think of too many issues that can't be fixed with a post in the forum.

No support for Win 500? I posted an issue with Win500 in the software forum and got a response from the person who wrote it. DonS is a member here.

My point is that I don't have a digital radio.I only program them for others, when I do it gives me the chance to play with a digital which I really enjoy.Of course I'll never be able to own one myself LOL.

Sounds to me like the answer to your software issue is to have the owner of the PRO-197 purchase the software––just a thought.

This software does not have support. It uses a community of people that have figured out the program using the trial and error method. Don will answer some of the questions. I have yet to receive an answer from my threads regarding my issue with Win500. I have been a supporter of starrsoft and have purchased his products in the past.

Starrsoft is not Microsoft and this is not MS Office BTW Office 2010 is $149.00 and yes they do support the product. They have help files as well as on line help for their products.

There is no reason that starrsoft, and PSREdit can not have help files for the price of $35.00

At least they do allow a thirty day trial and you don't have to spend your money for something that does not work.

I am not against either of these products, I prefer to use starrsoft as I am a loyal customer, but I will not pay any money until I can get my issue resolved.

When I can get my computer and radio to communicate with each other I will be more than happy to send starrsoft $35.00

Mike the help file that downloaded was empty. when I open it up this is what I get "Navigation to web page was cancelled"

That's a permissions issue. Navigate to the folder where you installed the program, right click on the PSREdit500.chm file, and then select Properties. Near the bottom of the window that appears, there should be an Unblock button. Click this option to unblock the contents of the file. The help file should then work.

I envy you my friend I wish I got that much Social Security. After paying bills I'm lucky to $50 left. That's why I'll never be able to afford a digital radio or software.
