• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Pics of ProClip Angled Mount (2010-2012 VW GTI) and ProClip Button and Clip Holder (Large) using the belt clip on my PSR-800.

For a totally covert install, I'm using a Diamond RH77CA mounted on the inside of the windshield along the right A-Pillar using a Valor BNCSCRS. It's no Austin Spectra or Larsen Tri-Band (I own both) but I'm very happy with the performance.

I can also patch the audio from the scanner to an AUX 1/8" jack to use the factory sound system, although the PSR-800 has excellent audio for a portable.

I originally was going to buy a used MkV GTI, test drove a few and loved them, but once I test drove a new MkVI, I was hooked. All are a blast to drive.

Photos of the Diamond RH77CA and BNC suction cup mount installed on the inside of the windshield for a covert antenna. Please forgive the grimy windshield.

Thinking of upgrading to a Comet RS720NMO adjustable rear lip lip mount and Larsen tri-band.

looks great, Brian. I may try something like this in addition to the NMO mount externally, for trips around town, then install the NMO for longer trips.

the only concern i see is if that curtain airbag deployed! I would hate for your passenger to have an antenna imprint on their face!

Wow. Now that's a very nice setup. Quick in/out with radio. That's exactly what I'm looking to do with my handheld. Thanks for the pics and idea.

Thanks. Good point, I'll have to used an extension and relocate the antenna to a rear window when I have a passenger. Also a good argument to justify getting the Comet hatch lip mount :).

Thanks! I wanted something that was quick to setup and remove for theft deterrence.

So clean and discreet! Awesome.

Thanks! While the reception is a compromise from an external antenna, it works very well for what it is.

Is the power you are using by batteries only or do you have a 12V hookup. I tried this before but kept forgetting to turn the radio off & on and went back to the 500.
thanks Ed
