PSR-800 recording question

This will probably be the stupid question of the week, but here goes anyways....

When recording, does the 800 record at the volume you have set, or does it record at a preset volume rate? The reason I ask is because I want to have it record my city's PD/FD activity while I'm asleep, but I don't want to have the volume turned up if I don't have to.

Hmmmm . . . never thought about this. Should be real easy to figure out yourself by camping on a busy frequency and running the volume up and down.
