• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

On some motorola radios iv noticed when they key up there is a multiple tone instead of the one long tone that you hear when you ptt. Can normal conv. radios do this or is this like a trunked thing? Thanks

i know what your talking about, a local police department uses it, and i think they use XTS radios,
it kind of reminds me of a phone ringing, does anyone know what type of signaling that is?

Could it be that you are keying up a Passport system? I know with an HT1250 LS, it will beep quickly, three times.

The three quick beeps are for trunking systems letting the user know they can talk.
Most conv. radios only can do the long tone the ID.

On the HT1250 or HT750, if you select the long and short sidetone, the radio will emit both (beeeeeeep beep). This may be what you experienced.

This is a regular function on our Motorola trunking radios. The 3 beeps at PTT are the signal that you have a channel assigned and can talk. If you his the PTT and receive a long "bong" then the system is busy or you are out of range.

One nice thing about a pretone is that you have to WAIT before it finishes in order to talk. Nothing worse that you hearing someone already into their conversation when the channel becomes active.

Yes, your 3 tones is indicitive of a TRS radio - it's transmitting it's ID to the controller letting it know that your radio is authorized on the system. In the burst, it will also show your radio ID on the dispatch console as well as on the XTS displays (if that option is enabled). The long beeeeeeep and a beep is pretty much the same thing - your radio ID is being transmitted, but the system doesn't require your ID to access the system.
