After a rather nasty incident that happened in my buddy's neighborhood, everyone is talking about getting a police scanner. The suggestion came up about everyone chipping in and buying one scanner and using a Part 15 AM transmitter for the neighborhood.

Aside from the obvious Part 15 rules, does anyone know of any legal issues that might be involved with this kind of a setup?

I would think that it should not be any different than an internet stream, however none of those folks have a computer.

If this is not the proper forum please move.

Thanks.

why bother??

Why bother a part 15 transmitter goes 100 feet if that. You are not supposed to broadcast your local police,if something happens and the criminal uses it to his or her advantage,I would think they would come after the broadcaster.

Better off listing it as a streaming feed here. Not sure about the AM transmitter you are considering, but there tends to be a lot of complex issues in taking one radio service and rebroadcasting it over another service (with the exception of weather and NASA rebroadcasts).

like he said the "bad guys" will also be able to listen, and what do you expect to hear? calls of Pre-crimes ? (befor it happens - not) butcalls for service are after the fact? what are the chances that "something" will happen again in your block? and when and if somebody hears a call in the hood will there be someone who can or will do what? with the info
