FORT COLLINS - Two high speed chases resulted at around midnight Wednesday after police say two Homeland Security Agents tried to approach a man.
According to police, the man, whose name was not released, got into a Toyota Corolla and tried to run over the agents. Colorado State Patrol was in the area at the time and spotted the car. A 100 mph chase ensued and police eventually lost the car, but were able to get the license plate from the Federal Agents.
Police then went to the suspect's apartment and waited for him to return. The suspect eventually arrived at the residence, and police say they tried to approach him again at which time he hit a sheriff's deputy with his vehicle.
A second high speed chase resulted at around 12:45 a.m. through the city of Fort Collins at speeds of up to 90 mph, according to police. Eventually the suspect hit a guardrail rolling the car one and a half times at Mulberry and Timberline. The car then caught fire and the suspect was partially ejected. One of the troopers chasing the suspect also hit the guardrail and was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Police were able to extract the suspect and he was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital with serious injuries. He is facing numerous charges and police say they suspect alcohol and drugs were involved.
It was not immediately known why Homeland Security Agents initially attempted to approach the man and details of his charged were also not immediately released.
